Our children’s happiness and wellbeing is paramount and it’s a high priority for Coleham to invest in key staff to support our children and families.
Meet our friendly and dedicated Pastoral Care Team:
Mrs Nash, our Pastoral Leader, is a Designated Safeguarding Lead in school leading on Safeguarding issues and Early Help Intervention required for families.
Miss Mills, our Learning Mentor, delivers a range of targeted interventions throughout school, which can include: building self-esteem and resilience; helping children build positive relationships and overcome barriers to learning; supporting families through changes such as bereavement or family break up; anxiety; supporting children’s transition to new classes/schools; supporting children at break and lunchtimes with friendship issues; and other social and emotional needs.
Mrs Nash is trained in Early Help Support and can signpost families to the right support when it is needed. Mrs Nash also works with children both 1-to-1 and in groups delivering specific interventions. A parent support group, “Understanding Your Child”, is held at school yearly. This is a confidential and supportive network to chat about the everyday struggles of parenting and raising children as well as a source of advice. The course would benefit any parent/carer and provides an outlet to reflect on our actions, understand our child, empathise with a child’s point of view, learn new strategies and receive general support.
The feedback from previous parents has been very positive:
"I feel more in control and able to understand the thoughts and feelings of my child."
“I's been fantastic, very supportive."
"I feel more confident as a parent."
"I really learnt the value of play and the impact that not playing will have on a child."
"It made me think about situations from a child's point of view."
Looking after the staff and children matters to us at Coleham and Mrs Nash is a key member of our Staff Wellbeing Committee. Mrs Nash is an accredited Mental Health First Aider and is certified to teach Mindful Resilience. She is championing this throughout school, supporting staff to deliver a range of mindful activities including guided meditation, mindful movement and journaling.
If you would like to speak with Mrs Nash or Miss Mills then please make an appointment via the school office.
