This week EYFS went on a trip to our local produce shop 'The Allotment' to learn more about fruit and vegetables. This linked well to the children's literacy text Oliver's Vegetables. The children were mesmerised by the range of delicious fruit and vegetables on offer.
During the visit the children had the opportunity to apply real life mathematical knowledge by using coins to pay for vegetables, as well as weighing vegetables to find out how much they would cost.
We would like to extend our thanks to the owners of the shop Sam and Steve, and shop assistant Charlotte who not only gifted every child with a free portion of fruit during the visit, but for their patience in allowing the children the opportunity to learn about money and weight in a real-life context. The children had a wonderful time.
