On Thursday 13th February (the day after Charles Darwin’s birthday), 2Y visited Shrewsbury town to explore some places that the young Darwin would have walked around and known. As part of our study of the famous biologist, the children have been really inspired and excited to learn more about Shrewsbury’s most famous son. We were lucky enough to be able to visit a local historian and Darwin expert, Bibbs, at the Bear Steps Gallery. The children spent time in the exhibition and were able to formulate and ask questions about Charles Darwin.
We also spent our time visiting significant places such as the Shrewsbury Library (which was once Charles Darwin’s school) and The Parade Shopping Centre (which used to be the hospital where Charles Darwin’s father worked as a physician).
The children behaved impeccably and really made the school proud as they walked through town, remembering their manners and being polite a respectful to members of the public.
