I have been on the Governing Body since September 2010, when I took up the post of Deputy Headteacher here at Coleham Primary School, having worked in two other schools in Trafford Local Authority prior to this. I took over as Headteacher in January 2014. The Governing Body at Coleham focuses on the strategic leadership of the school and works very closely alongside myself and my leadership team to drive the school forward and to ensure accountability to all stakeholders.
I have a child at Coleham and another hopefully starting in September 2019. It has been great to see the developments at the school over the last 18 months. I have been teaching in the secondary sector for 13 years, working in a variety of schools across the globe. I am currently Head of Humanities at an academy in Telford with responsibility for standards and progress across History, Geography & the Social Sciences. I firmly believe that the fundamentals of learning & teaching are fluid across both the primary and secondary sectors and look forward to sharing good practice.
Up until my departure in February 2018, I had worked at Coleham for almost 23 years. During this time I saw a number of changes. However, one thing that always remained constant was 'the Coleham vibe', which shined through all of the staff and children. I am proud to say that it has always been Coleham's ethos to celebrate all successes, no matter how small, and whether they be academic, sporting, creative or personal achievements; and I look forward to continuing my involvement with the school as a school governor.
Although not originally from Shropshire area, I have lived in Shrewsbury since 2005.
I am married with 2 children, one of whom is currently in Year 1 at Coleham. When we began looking for schools, Coleham was not our catchment school. However, having visited it was clear to us that Coleham School was where we wanted our children to go. My professional experience lies within Policing, a job I have been doing for the last 15 years. Since 2010 I have been a Police Dog Handler, predominantly working in the Shrewsbury and Telford areas. I hope that as a Co-Opted Governor I can make a contribution to the continued success of the school.
I live in Belle Vue, am retired and have a 30 year background of employment in planning and managing public sport, leisure and cultural services. I hope to draw on my experience in local government senior leadership roles to do my best to assist the Local Governing Body fulfill its functions to help ensure an excellent education for every child at the school.
Having both my son and daughter at Coleham, the school has become an integral part of our family life. Living within the local community has also allowed us to adopt the school’s values and principles in general life. Being a Local Governor would be an honour, and I could not think of a better way to help shape the future of the next generation.
I am interested in furthering my professional development and knowledge of school leadership/governance. I feel privileged to work in a nurturing & supportive environment that empowers teachers to get the best from pupils and teaches a creative curriculum. My experience is in EYFS. I believe this crucial stage has a fundamental impact on children’s happiness and school journey. My aim as Teacher Governor is to ensure pupils are given the best opportunities & support so they are equipped & prepared for life.
I am a specialist teacher of children with social, emotional, mental health and medical needs in Shrewsbury. I have taught in various primary schools in Shropshire, holding responsibility for Special Educational Needs in each school. I am passionate about education and inclusion and getting the balance right for pupils. My two girls go to Coleham and I have fond memories of the School from my time as a pupil. As a member of the local community, I have seen steady positive change at Coleham School. As it continues to move forwards, I hope to serve the governing body in any way I can, acting as a critical friend and ambassador.
I am currently an Associate Professor of Computing at Birmingham City University, having previously worked in IT and other roles in the private and voluntary sectors. As a parent, I have been impressed with the dedication and enthusiasm of all those at the school. It manages to balance professionalism with individual care, a combination hard to find in the modern world. As such, I hope that my skills and experience can be used to support Coleham School in furthering and continuing this good work.
As a teacher of 27 years, I have been involved in education throughout my career. As a trained Chemistry and Science specialist, I have worked in 4 very different schools in the UK and overseas. I have held middle and senior leadership positions and I am currently Deputy Head Academic at Shrewsbury High School where I have worked since 2007. Both of my children attend Coleham Primary and as a Parent Governor, I aim to support the school in achieving its goal of providing an outstanding education and excellent outcomes for all of its pupils.
I started my career in education as a Geography teacher at Sevenoaks School. I currently hold the role of Head of Geography at Shrewsbury School. I have a 2 year old son and another child due in the new year. My family life and job make me fully aware of the importance of an excellent education for all children. The processes that govern the successful culture, physical structure and operations of an educational establishment intrigue me and is an area I would like to devote my professionalism, time & energy.
I have worked in schools for over 25 years and joined Coleham in June 2015 when my husband’s job relocated us to Shropshire. As the Lead TA my role is to develop my team to work effectively with class teachers to provide the best education for our children. I attend SLT meetings.
