On very rare occasions there may be a need to close the school due to severe weather conditions such as heavy snowfall. Coleham School will, however, endeavour to remain open whenever possible.
The decision to close the school is made by the Headteacher, where possible before 7.30am on the day concerned. It is taken on the basis of the weather here and now, future predicted weather, the availability of facilities and travel issues (associated with staff and pupils). This decision will be made on a day-by-day basis.
In the event of the school needing to close we will:
•Inform parents via the school text/email messaging service (Note: Texts/emails can only be sent to those people registered with ParentPay).
•Inform Shropshire Council to update the county-wide School Closure List which can be accessed via this link: Shropshire School Closures
In addition, BBC Radio Shropshire (96FM) and other local radio stations will broadcast details of closures and changes to school opening hours when there is snowfall in the county.
We advise parents to listen to the local radios or check the Shropshire Council School Closure List. Please do not phone the school for information about closures as this ties up the phone lines and stops staff being able to make arrangements for the running of the school under difficult circumstances.
Reminder: It is extremely important that all phone numbers and emergency contact numbers are kept up to date and we send out a form for this purpose periodically.
