This is funding that the school receives to support specific groups of children who are vulnerable to possible underachievement. These include children who are registered as eligible for free school meals (FSM) at any point in their education, those looked after by the Local Authority and the children of armed services personnel.
For 2017-18, our Pupil Premium allocation is £108,640. The majority of Pupil Premium funding is used to provide good quality teaching and support, raising the standard of achievement for these children. Our approach is very much tailored to the individual so that each child’s learning needs are met. We use this money to fund Learning Mentor time, one to one tuition and various intervention groups. More recently, we have used funding to encourage creativity. Children have taken part in the John Muir Award and Wizard Theatre workshops, which they really enjoyed and from which we have seen enormous benefits. It is also used for after school activities for this group of children to ensure that they have all of the opportunities to flourish and reach their potential at Coleham.
Please read the Pupil Premium policy for further information about this funding and our approach to using this money here at Coleham.
Please read our Pupil Premium Strategy for 2017-18. This gives details about how we plan to spend this money and the proposed impact on the children who will receive the funding.
We are finding that the support that we are putting in place for this group of children is having a huge impact on their learning and so is David Laws MP. In January 2015, we were delighted to receive a letter from Mr Laws congratulating us on the exceptional attainment and progress of this group of children. We are, “highly effective in educating our disadvantaged children.” Here is the letter, please have a read.
