The Friends of Coleham School (FOCS) is a fun and sociable way to bring staff, parents, carers and pupils together in support of our school. Throughout the year we hold a range of events which raise funds but just as importantly, bring together our school community.  Our aim is to provide affordable events for the whole family to enjoy with a friendly relaxed vibe, avoiding any commercial feel.  To stage our events we rely on the wonderful support of our parents and carers - no amount of time or gesture is too small or insignificant.

Role of the Committee
Our PTA committee has two main officers Chairman and Treasurer and a range of parents and staff who help to organise events.  Everybody’s time is precious so we only meet every 2/3 months in order to organise the main events and once annually for the official AGM.  We meet at The Crown pub in Coleham and usually do the business first so we can stay around and have a chat afterwards.  We advertise each meet up on our Facebook page and everybody is welcome, there are no ongoing commitments!

How We Raise Money
Our fundraising comes from our following main events:

* May -Plant & Craft Fair
* July -Summer Fair
* December -Christmas Fair & Hamper Raffle
* School Discos

Whilst fundraising is important, ultimately we want the children to have fun and provide events that the whole family can enjoy.   We focus these events on simple ideas for the children such as competitions and craft activities and engage with local community groups (The Belle Vue Arts festival, The Wildlife Trust, Footlights Dance School) to provide workshops and displays for entertainment.

How We Spend the Money We Raise
We are committed to spending money raised on items and activities that will directly benefit the children. The pressures of school budget funding over the next five years, will mean that the PTA funds become even more important to help provide experiences that brings our children’s learning to life such as theatre performances and workshops. The PTA funds are also used to help improve school equipment and provide the little luxuries such as the Christmas and Year 6 Leavers parties.

How You Can Get Involved
There are numerous ways you can get involved with FOCS, ranging from selling glow sticks at our children’s discos to manning a stall for an hour at one of our fairs.  To run our events, we need lots of people to help serve refreshments and man stalls.  If you could spare an hour for one of our fairs then do please get in touch. The children love to help out on stalls! You can, of course, volunteer to be a Committee Member or if you and a group of friends have your own idea for a fundraising event then Focs can help support you with this.

How We Get Information to You
We will keep you informed about our activities and requests for assistance by sending letters via Parent Mail and/or in book bags. Our Friends of Coleham Facebook page will provide you with all you need to know about forthcoming events and how to contact us and we also include updates in the school weekly newsletter.  You can contact us by our own FOCS letterbox at school, situated round the corner of the main reception doors, drop us an email at focs@colehamprimary.ac.uk or leave a message with the school reception.  We really couldn't achieve what we do without the unseen army of help that exists in school so please do get in touch – we would love to hear from you.
